An Altoona woman is behind bars today, facing charges including assault and strangulation. 23 year old Khajai Smith is also charged with DUI and resisting arrest, after Altoona police answered a call from the Wingate by Wyndham Hotel on Chestnut Avenue early Tuesday afternoon, and when they arrived, they saw Smith speed away. A victim then told police Smith had prevented her from leaving a home near the hotel several times before she was finally able to get away, and have hotel staff call police for her. She said it stemmed from an argument that started when Smith took a bite out of a cake she was baking before it was finished. When police caught up with Smith on Fourth Street, they say she smelled of alcohol. Then she became uncooperative, threatened the officers, and even kicked one of them, and tried to spit on the officer too. Smith is now in the Blair County Prison, on $15,000 cash bail.
