The Altoona Mirror reports that Stickel came out and said that while the idea of a new jail is practical, the cost may be the real issue. Stickel’s remarks came after the commissioners agreed to accept a grant from the state of $184,0000 to create a feasibility study to determine where a new prison would be built, and how much that new prison would cost the county to run. The study will identify just what king of prison the county would build, and most importantly where. Stickel said that he does see the need for a new jail, and that the current facility has many deficiencies, and something needs to be done.
