A report in the Altoona Mirror indicates that a fire broke out yesterday morning around 10:20 on a rail car that was slated for extinction. The fire broke out on the Birch River rail car that was built in 1949. It contained numerous bedding areas and had been damaged by vandals some 15 years ago. Museum officials said that the car was of no value because it was being taken apart to be used for scrap metal. The flames broke out when acetylene torches that were used to cut the metal, set fire to insulation inside the car. Firefighters wee on the scene for about 2 hours.
