A report in the Altoona Mirror indicates that back in the 1990’s the state legislature passed a bill that would tie future pay increases for these folks to inflation rates. Well, in 2022, those inflation rates, the highest in 40 years, will provide a 7.8% pay hike for all of the afore mentioned officials across the state. This will be the largest increase since that legislation was passed. Lawmakers will now receive $103,000 annually, Gov elect Shapiro will make $230,000. Chief justice on the State Supreme Court, Debra Todd will make $252,000 and the house speaker and senate president pro tempore will make $160,000. This raise is 50% higher that the average wage earned in the private sector in Pennsylvania, according to the report.
