Here’s a listing of what will be happening on the “Homegrown Rocker” during May. Catch the program every Sunday night from 8 to 10 p.m. on Q94 Classic Rock (www.q94classicrock.com), from 10 p.m. to midnight on 107.1 and 101.3 Jack FM (www.1071jack.fm), and via podcast after the show airs on Q94’s website (in “The Professor’s Classroom”).
MAY 4 – MSJR with Derek Woods: We’ll be joined via phone by two guests: Jonathan Vanaskie, the founder and frontman of western PA-based reggae fusion group MSJR, and frequent-flyer guest Derek Woods, who has recently collaborated with MSJR. We’ll learn MSJR’s story and mission, and hear music from both MSJR and Derek!
MAY 11 – A Trip to the Mailboxes: It’s been a while since we have visited the “Homegrown Rocker” mailboxes, so on this show we’ll enter the mailboxes and unveil new local and regional recordings that have arrived in recent weeks! Get ready to hear lots of new music!
MAY 18 – James Grove: We’ll meet and get to know our in-studio guest, central PA singer and songwriter James Grove! We’ll learn a bit about James, his music, career, live show and more, plus hear some of his music. And James will also discuss “Acoustic Altoona,” a series spotlighting area singers and songwriters that takes place periodically at ArtsAltoona!
MAY 25 – Memorial Day Special: Keeping with tradition, we’ll again present this year’s installment of the popular Memorial Day Special, where we celebrate past area bands and artists! We’ll dig into the archive and remember many of the bands and performers who have graced area stages and released music over the past several decades, including some performers dating back to the 1960s! And we’ll pay homage to some of the area musicians we have lost over the years.
