State officials with the Department of Environmental Protection say the air quality in in a number of counties in Pennsylvania will be at an unhealthy level today, due to smoke from Canadian wildfires. The affected counties include those in the South Central and Eastern regions, as well as the Mon Valley (part of Western Pa). Specifically, Dauphin, Cumberland, York, Lebanon, Lancaster, Berks, Lehigh, Northampton, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties are under Code Orange air quality alerts, or have been impacted by unhealthy air quality. The air quality is also expected to be moderate in the Pittsburgh area. The DEP says vulnerable populations like young children, the elderly, and people with respiratory problems should limit their time outside. All residents are asked to reduce ozone air pollution today by driving less and conserving electricity.
