A heat advisory begins today at noon and will run through tomorrow night at 8:00. Forecasters say record high temps are possible as a major dome of heat will impact millions on the eastern and central portions of the nation. Closer to home a heat index of 104 degrees is expected. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, and in an air-conditioned room if possible. In the meantime, Altoona Fire Fighters IAFF Local 299 announced that they will be converting their building at 1813 6th Avenue into a cooling center, now thru tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Anyone in need of a safe, cool place can visit the center.
