After contract negotiations failed to produce a new deal, union employees at the Mount Nittany Medical Center are schedule to vote today (July 8) to strike. They are demanding better pay and a new labor contract that prioritizes both staff and patient safety.
Nearly 1,000 Mount Nittany Health workers will to decide when the planned strike will officially begin and how long they will walk the picket line.
The hospital’s 950 workers represented by SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania claim that Mount Nittany only offered annual raises of 3%, 2% and 2%. They called the offer “measly”.
According to the Union, once a strike date is officially voted on, they will give Mount Nittany a 10-day notice to allow for patient care preparations to be made.
The latest contract expired July 1st.
