Homegrown Rocker Playlist/Recap 9/27/26 (Instruments Do the Talking Special)

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 27 edition of “The Homegrown Rocker,” which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (www.q94classicrock.com), and from 10 PM to midnight on 107.1 and 101.3 Jack FM (www.1071jack.fm)!

We gave area singers and their voices the night off this week on the program, as we resurrected a special we have done before, the “Instruments Do the Talking” Special! We put the spotlight on local and regional bands and artists who have created instrumental numbers. We heard from a variety of genres, spanning rock to funk to progressive to soul, jazz, electronica, heavy metal, blues, folk, Americana and more! We also debuted a new guitar instrumental by Devin’s Mostly Not Blue (Devin Sherman) and pulled a rocking 2005 instrumental from Philipsburg-Osceola’s Wide Open for our “Local Music Flashback!!” (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94’s website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on “The Professor’s Classroom,” and then scroll down to “Homegrown Rocker Podcast” and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 092726.)

Popular Pittsburgh roots rockers the Legendary Hucklebucks are releasing a brand new new album, their first since their 2015 album “Hillbilly Death-Wrock Volume One.” The new self-titled album will be released on streaming platforms on Wednesday, and a vinyl version of the album will be soon available. 200 preorder copies will be available, and those who preorder the album will receive as a bonus a free digital download of the album.

Area musician and 8-1-Funk frontman Andrae Holsey announced that he has undertaken a new band endeavor and experimental music project. The project, “He Walks Among Us,” is described as an experimental worship music band that combines positive-themed messages with modern technology and elements of video game music. According to Andrae, a live show for the new project will take place in November.

Scranton-based alternative rock band American Vanity announced the departure of guitarist Luke Hoffman, who is leaving the group to pursue his doctorate degree. The remaining members of the group will be going on hiatus after seven years together to recharge, explore other interests and focus on life outside the band. American Vanity will return to the live stage on New Year’s Eve for an event in the Hershey area.

The area acoustic duo of Mellissa Vella and Kenny Karlheim are separating after several years of entertaining local audiences. Kenny will be devoting more time to his family, and Mellissa plans to continue to make music in the area.

And the area music scene was saddened by the recent passing of musician Jim Hemcher, who passed away on September 17 at age 78. Jim had played guitar and bass with several area bands dating back to the 1980s.
