Road Work To Cause Lane Closure On I-99 In Centre County

road-work-2

Drivers in Centre County should prepare for overnight delays starting next week as a major 20-mile pavement rehabilitation project gets underway on Interstate-99.  The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced that crews will begin work to restore concrete pavement and bridge approach slabs on a massive stretch of the highway between Spring Township and Port Matilda.  The project aims to improve ride quality, extend the service life of several bridges, and enhance overall motorist safety.  Beginning Monday, motorists will encounter short-term, single-lane closures on I-99 southbound between Exit 80 (Harrison Road) and mile marker 58 near Port Matilda.  To minimize the impact on daytime traffic, these closures will occur strictly overnight from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.  PennDOT expects the construction to transition to the northbound lanes in a few weeks.  Work for the 2026 construction season will continue until Thanksgiving before pausing for the winter.  Operations will resume in early 2027, with final completion anticipated by November of next year.
