Pennsylvania recorded the most power outages last year in decades. The Pennsylvania Utility Commission said there were 71 reportable outage events in 2024, the most in over 30 years. The PUC said the outages were caused by severe weather, vegetation-related damage, and the wear and tear of an aging power grid, but also noted most distributors struggled to meet benchmarks for reliability. The commission said only three of its eleven electric distribution companies have consistently met standard performance metrics over the last three years.
