Backyard Beats 2/5: A Super Weekend for Live and Online Music!

Here is a listing of Pennsylvania live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, February 5 through Thursday, February 11.

Due to COVID-19-related restrictions, many live music venues across the area are still not able to host performances at this time. The listing below includes both area live public shows and online live-streaming shows; keep checking back, as this listing will be updated as new shows are announced.

If you are attending a public show, be aware that seating and admission may be limited due to restrictions, and masks and social distancing may be required. Please respect others’ personal space if they wish to socially distance from others.

For online performances, if a “virtual tip jar” situation is available during live streams, please consider tipping these performers, and support them during this time when they cannot earn income playing shows at public venues. Websites for these performers are also listed; please consider purchasing their music digitally or via CD, which is another way to SUPPORT LIVE MUSIC!

If you are a football fan, this is a holiday weekend, with Super Bowl LV happening Sunday evening. But it is also a super weekend for live music, both on public stages and online. Band shows and acoustic performers happen on several live stages on Saturday and Sunday, and a Felix & the Hurricanes warning has been posted for Friday evening.

The online slate provides several intriguing options as well…Bret Alexander, former multi-instrumentalist and singer for renowned Pennsylvania Americana rockers The Badlees, presents a live stream performance Friday evening at 8 p.m. on Facebook, hosted by the Central Pennsylvania Music Hall Of Fame…As Ted McCloskey has just released his third album inspired by the ongoing COVID-19 situation and the chaos of the past year – “The Lost Season Sessions Vol. 3 – Waiting for the Cavalry” – it’s possible he may unveil some of the new songs live when he and cohort Molly Countermine present their weekly Friday evening live stream performance on Facebook starting at 7 p.m….The Penn State School of Music presents their three-day African American Music Festival live stream, featuring an almost continuous slate of musical performances from School Of Music members and ensembles, lectures, guest speakers and more. See the listing below for the link to check out the festival, which runs until 3 p.m. Sunday…The SOS2020 Concert Series continues online Thursday evening with The Redlines, Half Wheel and Domenic Fusca performing; see the listing below for the link to the concert. Proceeds benefit the National Independent Venue Association’s (NIVA’s) Emergency Fund to help independent live music venues during the ongoing COVID-19 situation…And Habatat performs online Thursday night during The Palace Theatre’s “Virtually In the Palace (VIP) Experience” concert series. The concert can be viewed by The Palace Theatre’s and Westmoreland Cultural Trust’s Facebook pages starting at 7 p.m.
