As this month marks the first anniversary of the beginning of our COVID-19 woes, Ted McCloskey takes the spotlight for this week’s “Local Song of the Week” with one of many songs he has created over the past year. Last March, Ted went from working five nights a week performing live on the State College music scene to a total halt, and not being able to play any shows (or earn his living doing so). Ted channeled his shock and frustrations into creativity, and since March has issued three albums of new original music inspired by his thoughts, experiences and observations of the COVID-19 pandemic and other societal issues that emerged during the past year. From the first of those albums, “The Lost Season Sessions Vol. 1: The Big Pause,” is this song, “Nonessential,” as ‘nonessential’ businesses – and subsequently, ‘nonessential’ jobs – became a big topic of conversations and headlines in the early weeks of the COVID-19 shutdown.
