6 of 9 miners who became trapped in the Quecreek mine in Somerset County got together over the weekend for a rememberance. The miners were remembering the 20th anniversary of their entrapment and the nearly 4 day rescue plan that saved their lives. A mine flooded with water trapping the 9 mine inside for those 4 days. Rescuers worked around the clock to try and save the men. The story became a national story but all 9 men survived. And 6 of them gathered in Jennerstown this weekend to celebrate their rescue. Former Pa Governor Mark Schweiker told a crowd that the state is grateful for the first responders and rescuers who worked to save the men’s lives.
