The report states that roughly one third as many teachers from just 10 years ago have entered the workforce, and that is becoming alarming to the state dept of education. 10 years ago, 20,000 teachers were entering the workforce, now this year only about 6000 are expected to find work. The education dept says it will use all of its resources to recruit and retain teachers to keep schools strong with educators. The result of fewer teachers is larger class sizes and less one on one time with students who many need help. The teacher shortage will have a profound impact on the entire economy according to acting secretary of education in Pa Eric Hagarty.
