In a report by WTAJ, city council and Mayor Matt Pacifico voiced their opposition to a proposal to increase the size of tractor trailers and the weight they can carry. Mayor Pacifico said that an increase in weight limits can cause serious damage to roads, and would be detrimental to safety. The proposed increases include adding 15,000 lbs to the amount of weight a trailer can carry, and increasing the length of the trailer to 91 feet. Mayor Pacifico noted that these increases could and will cause longer breaking times for drivers, and could increase roll over accidents. Pennsylvanian is 5th in the nation for poor bridge safety. A letter of opposition is on its way to Washington.
