News reports indicate Altoona City Council and Mayor Matt Pacifico are talking with Comcast regarding their possible move into the Altoona area to provide cable and internet access services. Mayor Pacifico said that talks have been going on for a while, but Comcast officials were at the council meeting last night and may be looking to start plans to offer their services. One area of particular interest is broadband internet service, which could cost as little as $9.95 per month to low income families. For decades, Altoona has been served by only one cable company, that has had several different names, the latest being Breezeline. Mayor Pacifico said that negotiations will be the next step to come to a possible franchise agreement.
