Television news reports indicate that the county announced that it has received a grant of $185,000 that will pay for a feasibility study to determine if it can build a new jail. Commissioner Bruce Erb said that the current jail is outdated with regards to all that the county is mandated to provide at the jail located on Mulberry Street in Hollidaysburg. The study will try and help the county pick out a new location for a modern day facility. Currently, the jail houses some 325 inmates, in a building that is equipped to handle between 250-275 inmates. The commissioners may approve that grant today, then the consulting group will put together its study over the next 4 months.
