An Altoona Mirror report indicates that the Central Blair Rec Commission which operates Prospect pool in Altoona, will look to city council to make a decision about opening the pool in 2023. The commission said in a report that it lost some $22,000 this summer and could lose between $25,000 and $40,000 next year. Those losses are attributed to declining patron usage and maintainence expenses. Plus the commission says that repeated police calls to the pool have hurt business. CBRC reports an 87% drop in average attendance during a summer long time period in 2022, with just 1875 people using the pool this year. Officials also said a decision could be hastened by the fact that pool chemicals and materials are hard to get and the supply chain issues could make it more difficult the longer the commission waits to decide.
