The Altoona Mirror reports that city council has unveiled its 2023 budget, without any new tax hikes. The proposed spending plan stands at $35.4 million, and will be helped with funds received from the American Rescue Plan Act. But city manager Omar Strohm warns that the 2024 budget may not be so rosy. The city is counting on most of those rescue plan funds for capital projects. So spending for the 2024 budget may become a bit tighter next year when that budget is released. Strohm said that inflation is the reason that finances are becoming tight, and the city is dealing with debt service, along with rising pension and retirement costs.
