News reports indicate the inmate, identified as 44 year old Micheal Shaffer. Police report that Shaffer was apparently found unresponsive in his jail cell at 4:00 Sunday afternoon. CPR was given to Shaffter until emergency personnel arrived, but Shaffer was pronounced dead. Shaffer was serving a sentence of 2-5 years for a DUI conviction out of Jefferson County. State police from Clearfield and the county coroner are investigating. Shaffer arrived at SCI Houtzdale on October 11th.
