In a report by WTAJ, the district last night authorized the school security police to carry AR15 patrol rifles while on duty. The move is in an effort to combat any active shooting incidents that may occur, and to help protect students and staff. The new weapons will make it safer for officers to defend students and all persons who may be on campus. District police officers will have to successfully complete a patrol operators rifle program to be able to carry the new weapons. The new weapons will only be used for an active shooter situation. Security Chief Bill Pfeffer said that times have changed, and the school district must also change in order to protect students and employees.
