News reports indicate the the Green Leaf medical marijuana plant in Saxton has announced it will permanently lay off half of its work force by the end of February. The employees were told this week that they would be laid off, and that their jobs would be permanently cut by February 28th. Mayor of Saxton, Alan Smith told reporters that he was shocked by the announcement coming just days after the new year began. A supply and demand issue is listed as the chief cause of the layoffs. Smith said that right now, there is not the high demand for medicinal marijuana than there was a short time ago. And smith says he hopes the factory will rebound in the near future
