A report from Harrisburg indicates that lawmakers heard testimony that plenty of hazardous materials are carried across this state by rail cars, and that residents should be made aware of the contents. At least 40% of materials contained in rail cars are some sort of hazardous material, according to this report. The one drawback for legislators is that they are powerless to make change, because that has to come from the federal govt. And the Biden adminstration says it will make changes to their laws about more transparency on telling communities what materials are coming into their cities and towns. A study concluded that some 4 million pa residents live in possible evacuations zones where train accidents could occur.
