The Altoona Mirror reports that Mayor Pacifico is seeking answers from the railroad because their tracks run right smack dab in the middle of Altoona, and probably carry hazardous materials a fair amount of the time. Mayor Pacifico says that NS has to give more information about its cargo, and he raise concerns about the the company’s business practices. The mayor testified at the Harrisburg hearing and asked what would happen if a derailment like the one at the Ohio border happened in Altoona? He also said that Norfolk Southern has not been up front when communicating with local emergency management officials when it comes to accidents on their tracks.
