The ceremony was held to remember the 5 people who were killed in the wreck of the Walter L. Main circus train just north of Tyrone back in may of 1893. The train went out of control on the tracks in Veil, and descended down Tyrone mountain and crashed at McCann’s crossing. Hundreds of the animals of the circus also died in the crash. The yearly memorial was started in 2000, by a member of the Hiram Friday family. He was one of the people killed in the crash. There were several speakers at the event, highlighted by a wreath laying ceremony.
