A report in the Altoona Mirror indicates that he university spends more than $4.3 million in 2020 on no less than 5 private law firms. All this despite that fact that the school carries a 26 member board of general counsel. The report was generated by Spotlight Pa, which was seeking to find out why the school has to retain so many private law firms. In a memo sent to Spotlight Pa, Penn State responded with this, when our general counsel deems it necessary to retain outside legal help for certain legal matters, they will do so. Penn state went on to say that the general public need not know when outside counsel is needed, until that information is disclosed in court filings.
