
But now according to a report by WJAC, the legislature in Pennsylvania wants to change that. A bill has passed through the state house that would allow student teachers to be paid or get a grant of $10,000. The money would come from the pa higher education assistance agency (PHEAA). The bill will also provied a $2500 stipend to teachers who take in a student teacher into their classroom. State officials say there are approximately 5000 student teachers each year across pa, and this bill would cost upwards of $67 million. The state Sentate will now take up the bill in Harrisburg.
