Backyard Beats Listing 11/10/23: PennSoulvanians, Ma’aM Album Releases This Weekend!

Here is a listing of area live music and online music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, November 10 through Thursday, November 16.

Album release events highlight this weekend’s area live music happenings; both happen on Saturday night.

To borrow the title from one of their songs, the “Day Has Come”…Altoona-based soul, funk, folk, hip-hop, reggae and rock adventurers The PennSoulvanians officially release their long-awaited debut EP on Saturday evening at The Casino at Lakemont Park. The festivities begin at 7:30 p.m. with opening guest group Innocent Sin from Clearfield. Besides performances by both bands, The PennSoulvanians will also screen their first official music video during the event, and ticket purchasers will be entered to win one of five copies of the CD. Food will be available for purchase from Rebelz Mobile Cuisine and Juicy Butts BBQ of PA. The event is open to ages 21 and older. Presale tickets through Friday, and cost $10/person. Tickets at the door will be $15/person; members of the military who present a military ID will get a Military VIP Admission Ticket for $5.

Popular State College-based “cowpunk” adventurers Ma’aM will officially release their debut album, “Rules 2 Ramblin'” on Nudie Records, with an album-release show on Saturday night at The State Theatre in downtown State College. The show begins at 7 p.m., with a pre-party in the theatre’s lobby starting at 6 p.m. Beside Ma’aM, the event will also feature performances by opening guest groups Old Lady and Phil Spector’s Gun. Since their formation in 2019, Ma’aM has steadily built a fan base in the Centre region and beyond with their rowdy blend of alt country, garage rock and honky tonk.
