The need for more veterinarians in the state was highlighted earlier at the Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg. At least two sessions were offered on the shortage of vets, who provide services to both farm and domestic animals. State leaders say Pennsylvania needs to be more prepared with having a good contingent of vets in dealing with emergencies such as swine flu and avian flu challenges. They add that the veterinarian shortage is predominantly affecting rural areas in the Northwestern and Southwestern counties of Pennsylvania.
