Something a little different for our latest “Local Song of the Week”… Longtime listeners and followers of Q94’s weekly local music program, the “Homegrown Rocker,” know that during the early 2000s, a teenaged Lzzy Hale, her younger brother Arejay and their band – Halestorm – were frequent-flyer guests on the program in the days when the station was located at “The House That Rock Built” in a residential neighborhood in Altoona. Their parents – Roger and Beth – would drive them up from their home base near Red Lion, PA for what became fun get-togethers. We would do the pre-interview pizza parties at the Union Avenue Pizza Hut, before then heading over the hill to the station to discuss Halestorm’s latest happenings. We saw Lzzy and Arejay grow up before our eyes, and they eventually hooked up with Atlantic Records en route to heavy-rocking superstardom.

Now, for four shows, Lzzy has been invited to front rock and metal legends Skid Row. Our “Local Song of the Week” is Lzzy and Skid Row hammering out the Skids’ classic “Monkey Business” on May 18 at the Riverside Casino in Riverside, Iowa (near Iowa City). As this song and footage clearly shows, Lzzy was definitely up to the task!

This again reminds us of why we support local musicians and nurture their dreams on the “Homegrown Rocker” – because that support can play a role in those dreams coming true!
