For Q94 Classic Rock’s latest “Local Song of the Week,” a mix of old and new…We head to the Pittsburgh area for the “new,” which is the band Nowhere Wolves, formed during this past summer by members of previous bands. The song they are performing is the “old,” as they give their own punk/funk/alternative makeover to “Respect,” created and released in 1965 as a minor hit by Otis Redding, before becoming a huge hit for Aretha Franklin in 1967. Comprised of singer and rhythm guitarist J. Trafford, lead guitarist Everly Ward, bassist Chandrika Rice and drummer E.J. Johnson; Nowhere Wolves performed and recorded their version of “Respect” on July 23 of this year at the Poetry Lounge in Millvale (Pittsburgh). Six songs they recorded live on this night – “Respect” and five original songs – are featured on Nowhere Wolves’ self-titled debut album, which will be officially released during a release event on Wednesday, November 13 at Mr. Smalls Funhouse in Millvale. Nowhere Wolves were guests on the October 13 edition of Q94’s “Homegrown Rocker,” and several of their songs have been receiving airplay on the program in recent weeks.
