The Pennsylvania Game Commission is reporting cases of Chronic Wasting Disease among deer in Luzerne County. Two male deer have tested positive for the disease with one having been found by a hunter, and the other discovered inside a captive facility. Officials say that captive facility has been placed on quarantine. Chronic Wasting Disease is spread directly through animal to animal contact, and is fatal for members of the deer family. Because of these latest findings, disease management boundaries may be expanded. The boundaries for the new Disease Management Area will be announced at the Commission’s April board meeting.
