Gov. Shapiro To Unveil His Budget Proposal Tomorrow

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro will be delivering his new budget proposal to lawmakers this week, with an emphasis on frugality, and more funding for the poorest school districts in the state.  The budget proposal is to be unveiled tomorrow, and reportedly will also focus on more funds for rural hospitals, increase pay for those who care for older adults, and introduce taxes on games of skill that are viewed as competitors to the lottery and casinos.  The Governor also wants to start construction on power plants, and offer hundreds of millions of dollars in tax breaks due to an energy crunch that threatens to raise electricity bills in the Commonwealth.  This budget proposal comes at a time when the state has a large surplus of over 10 billion dollars in reserve.  Passage will require approval from Pennsylvania’s Democratic-controlled House, and the Republican-controlled Senate.
