A lawsuit is accusing the State Correctional Institute at Muncy of failing to protect female inmates from sexual assault. The federal lawsuit filed by the Pennsylvania Institutional Law Project claims staff at the prison knew a female inmate was being sexually assaulted by her parole agent, but did nothing to stop it. It also accuses two other staff members of using their positions to sexually abuse inmates. Among the defendants in the case are several employees in the Prison Rape Elimination Act Department, along with multiple counselors.
