Pope Francis’ funeral will be this Saturday at St. Peter Basilica. Cardinals at the Vatican met today to plan for the funeral and for the conclave, the manner in which a new Pope is chosen. Here at home, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has ordered flags to be lowered at half-staff to honor the Pope. Locally, Catholic churches with the Altoona/Johnstown Diocese will be decorated with white and gold for the papal seal, and with black as a color of mourning. A photo of the Pope is also expected to be posted in front of most Catholic churches. Reportedly, Bishop Mark Bartchak of the Altoona Johnstown Diocese is planning a memorial Mass to celebrate the life of Pope Francis in the near future, and also noted that a period of mourning will last for several days, and prayers will be offered in all churches within the diocese.
