Yesterday during a public hearing at the Blair County Courthouse, commissioners inched closer to establishing a trail, park and recreational development authority. Many in attendance yesterday were reportedly in support of such an authority, as a way to include Blair County into a national trail and recreation network. The next step is for the commissioners to now consider an ordinance, to create the authority, at their next meeting on May 1st. If all goes accordingly, the authority would have the power to apply for state and federal funding. In the meantime, the commissioners are also expected to vote soon on the decertification of Explore Altoona, the group that has been responsible for marketing tourism in the county, and replace it with the recreation authority. That vote also may come during their May 1st meeting.
