One man is facing numerous charges including criminal attempted homicide after he allegedly threatened to shoot multiple people and then struck a police officer during a chase in Altoona.  Altoona Police report the incident happened early Saturday morning when they were dispatched to a home on Walnut Avenue around 3:30.  When police arrived at the home, a man, identified as Ryan Lidwell, was seen leaving the residence in his car after trying to allegedly break into the home.  Police report they held Lidwell’s vehicle at gunpoint and gave verbal commands to stop, at which point he accelerated the speed, dragging a police Sergeant who was trying to stop the vehicle.  The Sergeant was taken to UPMC Altoona with significant injuries.  The chase continued until authorities lost sight of Lidwell near Sugar Run Road due to high speeds, however he was later found in Gallitzen where he was apprehended after officers spotted him intoxicated behind the wheel of a truck.  Investigators later learned the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute that had occurred earlier at a bar in Cresson between Lidwell and an ex-girlfriend.  Lidwell is facing charges of felony criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, and other related counts.  He is currently being held in the Blair County Prison.
