A Pittsburgh funeral home operator is accused of failing to cremate thousands of pets, instead dumping their bodies in a landfill. On Monday, the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office announced 70-year-old Patrick Vereb has been charged with theft by deception and other counts. Investigators say over 65-hundred pet owners who paid for cremation services at Vereb Funeral Home between 2021 and 2024 and were given ashes from other animals while the remains of their pets were thrown in with the garbage. Officials believe Vereb made more than 650-thousand dollars by deceiving those customers.
