Altoona School Board Members Don’t Support Tax Increase

wrta-logo-sm

Last night the Altoona School Board approved a preliminary general fund budget that includes a 3% increase in property taxes, however half of the board have stated their opposition to the increase.  Next month, if the board does not approve the tax increase, the district will have to pay nearly two-and-a-half-million out of its unreserved fund.   Reportedly Board President Val Mignogna, along with Vice President Kelly Irwin Adams, and members Mike Pappas and David Francis, disapprove of the tax increase and believe the best way to go is to tap into the unreserved fund, given the 5% increase that was already passed last year.  The preliminary general fund for 2025-26 can be inspected by the public from 7:30 to 11:30 am and 12:30 to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday at the Altoona Area School District School District office on 8th Avenue.  You can also view the budget online at www.aasdcat.com.  The final budget is expected to be voted on next month on the 16th.
