Pittsburgh is near the top of the list of Pennsylvania cities when it comes to UFO sightings. Stacker-dot-com has put together rankings based on numbers shared by the National UFO Reporting Center. At more than 200 sightings since 1995, Pittsburgh lands at number two on the list, behind Philadelphia. Western Pennsylvania is also home to one of the most interesting cases in history for many UFO enthusiasts; the alleged Kecksburg, Pa. crash of 1965. On that day a fireball was reported by citizens in six U.S. states, which NASA said was a Soviet satellite. Residents in Kecksburg, which is just outside Pittsburgh, reported wisps of blue smoke, and a “thump.” They also claimed something fell from the sky and crashed into the woods. The Kecksburg Volunteer Fire Department has fun with the mythology surrounding the alleged crash by hosting the UFO Festival each July.
