PSU Trustees Delay Vote On Campus Closures

old-main-2

The Board of Trustees at Penn State University have postponed a decision on the potential closure of seven statewide campuses, opting instead to reconvene next week.  A notice was reportedly posted on the trustee website indicating that a discussion on the closures will continue.  Several trustees believe the matter deserves more time, given the fact the decision is not an easy one to make.  Some trustees reportedly don’t believe any of the campuses should close.  The decision to close the seven campuses is coming from University President Neeli Bendapudi, siting a decline in enrollment.  The university estimates that closing the seven campuses would save around $50 million a year, along with clearing around $200 million in needed maintenance at the properties.  One of the campuses affected by the potential closings is Penn State DuBois in Clearfield County.  The next trustee meeting is slated for next Thursday at 5, and will be open to the public via video conferencing.
