Pennsylvania’s largest cave, Laurel Caverns, located in Fayette County, may become the state’s first underground state park, an idea that Governor Josh Shapiro is proposing.  Last week, members of the House Tourism Committee and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources toured the sandstone caves.  One reason why the DCNR was at the caverns last week is to consider how an underground state park would work.  Regional tourism officials are reportedly thrilled about the proposal.   The caves officially opened for tours in 1964 and the is largest bat habitat in the Eastern U.S.
