If you are traveling anywhere in the western part of the commonwealth be aware that the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is issuing a Code Orange air quality alert for parts of western Pennsylvania. Today’s alert covers Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Washington, and Westmoreland Counties. A Code Orange alert is called when the air is viewed as posing a risk to those who may have sensitive systems. The department recommends that young children, the elderly, and those with respiratory problems, limit outdoor activities today. The alert was issued as a result of low-level Canadian wildfire smoke, high temps, and southwest winds.
