A motion to move a dog hoarding trial has been denied. Nyal and Renee Piper of Bedford have been accused of hoarding nearly 100 dogs in their Bedford home. The 82-year old Nyal, and 63-year-old Renee, are each facing nearly 500 charges including animal cruelty, after the nearly 100 dogs and cats were found in deplorable conditions in their Bedford home in December of 2023. Yesterday in court, their attorneys made one final plea to have the case moved out of the county, believing the pair cannot get a fair trial because of the publicity the case has generated. Ultimately, Judge Travis Livengood denied the motion. Jury selection in this case is scheduled for next Tuesday in Bedford County Court, however the judge did say that if seating a fair jury fails, he may possibly reconsider moving the trial to another venue.
