The Casino at Lakemont is to close in a few short weeks. Doug Simon who owns the banquet venue announced yesterday that due to finical struggles , including high debt, he had to close. In a prepared statement, Simon said it may not have happened if the Blair County Commissioners had shared some of the county bed tax, for which the Casino would have been eligible because of its location on county owned property, but county commissioners refused his request. Reportedly, both Simon and the Lakemont Park Partnership have begun looking for another operator for he Casino. The Casino has been a part of the community’s fabric for generations, and was established in 1890. The last event at the Casino will be a wedding reception on July 5th.
