Future Of Lakemont Park Discussed During Commissioners Meeting

wrta-logo-sm

The subject of Lakemont Park’s future was a focal point yesterday during a meeting of the Blair County Commissioners.  According to the Altoona Mirror, Commissioner Dave Kessling said the park “must remain a park.”  Reportedly, what is hoped for is some type of action being taken to correct the lack of care currently surrounding the park.  The property, which is owned by the county, is leased to Blair Companies Real Estate until the year 2056, and they are responsible for the parks day to day.  Currently, rides are not operating, due to high costs, and recently it was announced that the Casino was closing its doors as a banquet venue.  The Altoona Mirror reports both the commissioners and Blair Companies Real Estate have been in talks to find a solution to the problem regarding the park’s current status.  Currently, Lakemont Park is open for picnics, basketball, volley ball, miniature golf, and also hosts various events throughout the year.
