Activists and some elected officials in Pittsburgh are urging UPMC to reconsider their choice to end gender-affirming care for minors. Yesterday they held a rally outside UPMC’s downtown Pittsburgh offices to push back on the decision to stop hormone therapy, puberty blockers and other treatments for patients under age 19. A UPMC spokesperson told TribLive their decision is based on a directive from the U.S. Justice Department under President Trump saying health professionals may be criminally charged for providing gender-affirming care for minors.
