State lawmakers in Pennsylvania are evaluating the expansion of veteran’s treatment courts in more counties throughout the commonwealth. The idea behind this move is to provide more legal advice and support to veterans. Veteran’s treatment courts are aimed at assisting those veterans who are struggling with disorders that may contribute to criminal charges, mental illness, and addiction. Reportedly, these specialty court programs have shown to have a high success rate in reducing relapse of criminal behavior. Pennsylvania has one of the highest veteran’s populations in the country, with 25 veteran’s country treatment courts currently operating across the state.
