Officials in Cambria County are continuing their efforts in finding the remains of five babies that are linked to a 40 year old homicide case in Gallitzin. Last week the Cambria County Coroner’s office exhumed what they believed to be the burial site of Stella Williamson’s babies in an effort to reunite two of the babies’ skulls that were discovered at a museum in Philadelphia. The area where the babies were believed to have been buried at the Laurel United Cemetery in Ebensburg, left more questions than answers as no remains were found. Since then, the coroner’s office has been in search of maps and other records to help them find the site. Reportedly no records have been found showing the remains were ever moved. The mystery regarding the babies began in 1980 when five infant bodies were found in a trunk in an attic of the Gallitzin home of Stella Williamson after she died. The bodies of the babies were wrapped in newspapers from the 20s and 30s. Two of the five skulls of the babies resurfaced recently when they were discovered in a Philadelphia museum, thus prompting the effort to find their burial site. The investigation continues.
